It's what's on the inside that counts
Insufficient filter performance poses a significant health risk due to a false sense of security, and not only in the medical field.

That's why everything was done during the development of the atemious pro to achieve above-average filter performance. According to the sample test report, the filter performance 
easily exceeds the required values of the FFP2 standards. This is what clearly distinguishes the German quality product 
from anonymous mass-produced goods. The atemious pro is subject to the requirements for personal protective equipment in risk category III of the PPE Regulation.

The high art of breathing comfort combines above-average filter density with the lowest possible breathing resistance.

Especially in the continuous use by medical personnel, the exhalation resistance plays a crucial role in keeping the strain on the lungs and thus fatigue 
as low as possible. With an average exhalation resistance of 170PA, this is almost half of the prescribed 300PA for the atemious pro.
The atemious pro was developed with experts for professional everyday practice. In addition to density, wearing comfort also plays an essential role. 
The inner moisture-absorbing derma fleece, in combination with the ergonomic fit, is particularly gentle on the skin. The comfort fleece insert supports the smooth fit of the mask. Furthermore, the design of the earbands using the high-quality ErgoFlex material contributes to the most carefree possible everyday use of the mask.

The crucial filter layer in the material composite of the atemious pro respirator mask consists of Meltblown. An ingenious material that essentially has the ability to filter out viruses as small as 0.12 micrometers.

Meltblown consists of polypropylene, a well-known plastic, a kind of all-rounder. Polypropylene is used in mechanical and automotive engineering, the textile industry, electrical engineering, and many other applications. In the production of Meltblown, the plastic is first melted until it becomes viscous. Then it flows through hundreds of tiny nozzles and forms an extremely thin thread underneath. But it's not nearly as thin as it's supposed to be later.

To achieve the desired dimensions in the micrometer range, the molten thread is blown. The air is around 250 degrees Celsius hot. The air captures the plastic threads and swirls them around. This makes the threads – also called filaments – extremely thin. One of the arts of producing Meltblown fleece is ensuring that the filaments don't break. This requires the optimal temperature of the molten plastic, the correct temperature of the air, and the correct speed of the airflow. A kind of celebration for process engineers.

These deliberately chaotic movements create a so-called random web, a network. Because the plastic threads are not completely cooled, they stick together. This network has a physical pore size of about ten micrometers. The filaments that make up the network are only half a micrometer thin. Although it is already very fine, this nonwoven network would not be nearly enough to reliably filter viruses out of the air based solely on their size. That's why physics also comes into play, such as the tendency of small particles to stick to surfaces.

Polypropylene as the base material of Meltblown is also used because it is lipophilic, meaning it attracts fats. This is why viruses stick to the fibers. The fleece used in the Atemious pro is also electrostatically charged, which further increases the filter performance by attracting the extremely small viruses found in aerosols.
